Major WTF-AGE

I had a dream last night that I was working back at my high school job, Mills Fleet Farm. Every customer that came through my line had a problem with their order and the POS (haha, "point of sale" - funniest supervisory abbreviation ever) kept yelling at me. At one point I had to ring up some bulk candy and they kept telling me to hit the "potatoes" button to ring up the bulk candy. POTATOES! (Even though there was clearly a "raisins" button in my dream.) After that, I kept the cash drawer open too long while a person counted out 35 cents in change and the whole computer systems froze.

Then a guy came through the line to rob me and I broke his arm across the counter...but..by the power of he-man and all things strange... he turned into a giraffe. Giraffe you say? Yes, I say. Giraffe. As I called 911 I had everyone yelling at me that I killed a giraffe. I had to explain to the 911 person that a giraffe just robbed the store and I killed it.

I don't remember how that was resolved in my dream, because I believe people kept coming through the line after that and everything was normal. (remember previous mentions of 'major continuity issues' in my dreams?) The last part I remember was when I couldn't get gloves to ring through, so the customer comes behind the counter to try scanning himself. I kept yelling at him, "Sir, sir, you can't be behind here!!! Please return to the other side of the counter!!"

And he didn't turn into anything. Thank the mighty giraffes!

UPDATE
Looked up meaning of giraffes in a dream:

Giraffe

To see a giraffe in your dream, suggests that you need to consider the overall picture. Take a broader view on your life and where it is headed.

To dream that you are riding a giraffe, represents your desire to stand up amongst the crowd. You want attention, but aren't getting it.

So I killed my broader view on life for attention? Hmmm....

Today's events

0700 - Wake up too early
0800 - Oh, crap. Gotta get ready in 10 minutes to take N to work. N laughing at me.
0810 - Drive N to work to save a bajillion dollars over the next two months
0845 - Breakfast

1000 - Dread working out. Dang, just wasted 13 minutes.
1002 - Dread working out
1003 - Get ready to work out. Dread.
1005 - Force myself that all will be ok. Insane feelings of dread.
1006 - Leave to go work out.
1130 - Return from working out. Determine I still hate it.
1131 - Feel slightly better that I worked out, but know tomorrow I will dread/hate all over again. Dread/hate/dread/hate.
1147 - Still in gross workout clothes, watering plants.
1200 - Decide it is lunch time. Dang, just wasted 13 minutes?
1240 - Done with lunch, lounging on couch watching some stupid TV show
0100 - Remind myself not to get sucked into some stupid TV show and turn off TV.
0101 - Go from room to room picking up stuff.

0500 - Wondering: where did my day go?
0600 - Pick up N from work to save a bajillion dollars over the next two months.
0630 - 1030 - Listen to cranky N demand dinner in 2 minutes. Calmly prepare supper ignoring Mr.Crankypants. Throw crackers his way to stave off his demands. Know N by now to know that he is just hungry. Wonder why men make insane/cranky demands instead of just calmly waiting for dinner. I eat sensible dinner. Check on N to make sure he balances his gross things with sensible vegetable things. N returns to normalcy. Almost adorable. Talk with N about my day. N tells me about his day. We discuss life and trip things. Let N show me funny things he finds on the internet. Remind him that I'm so much cooler than WoW. Lose attention of N to WoW. Start to wonder if I should learn to play WoW to vie for attention. Get attention of N. Try to convince him to go for bike ride. Lose attention of N. I play Wii, play on internet, watch TV, and/or do general putzing around. N pays attention to me randomly. Just getting into conversation or something super amazing on the internet when cranky N demands bedtime. Wonder why men make insane/cranky demands instead of just calmly waiting for my 2 minute bedtime routine. Calmly prepare for sleep. Vie for attention of N. Lose attention of N to his sleep. Feel all sappy in my heart over sleeping N.
1030 - 0700 - HAVE REALLY WEIRD MESSED UP DREAMS.
(last night it was snowing outside in May and I was playing floor hockey in my old high school gym.)

I will treasure these days always.

You figure these out....

I've had quite the detailed week.

Sunday Night
Terrifying night. Dreamt my teeth were falling out ala 2nd grade. Wiggle wiggle wiggle, tooth pulls right out. Must have something to do with fear of dentist/me needing to make a dentist appointment. I wake up right as I'm trying to explain the teeth falling out thing to a dentist and I'm crying.

Monday Night
Travel night. Dreamt we had a layover in South Korea. (totally on the way to Lebanon!) There were some flight problems, so I told N to pick up our luggage rather than trust the airlines to get it on our new plane. Then we see the porters correctly putting the luggage onto the new plane and I realize I just made N do something foolish. I also start asking N if he packed my purse and has my passport (apparently we had to leave to get to South Korea in a hurry!) and realize I forgot a change of clothes for the carry on. We go into the line to board the new plane. The new plane is up a huge flight of stairs (tall plane? I dunno.) N is almost up the stairs and all of a sudden I start yelling at him that he left our main luggage bag in the lobby area and he needs to go find it. I don't go with him (?) and proceed to get on the new plane. The plane is set up like a lounge...recliner seats in rows in the middle and all of these diner tables around the outside. I try to find an open 2 seats next to each other, but can only find one side of a diner table open. I wake up right as I start to panic that N won't make it on the plane and that our luggage is completely lost for good.

Tuesday Night
Magical land night. Dreamt I had to pick up jackets (? yeah, don't ask?) from an island and I had a winged creature to get me there. Along the way dealt with flooding/water lands, meeting these hissing little things that did something weird when they were out of the water. I left that area before I figured out what horrible thing they did....because some people kept yelling at me to go pick up jackets. Quit yelling at me! I wake up right as I'm flying back on the winged creature with jackets.

Wednesday Night
High School non-musical night. Dreamt I was enrolling in my senior year of high school! How exciting! (awful) I've had a version of this dream within the last couple of months too...last dream was that I didn't enroll in any classes and I had to get to the school to pick out classes etc. Last night it was the actual first day and I kept laughing with people that I hadn't even gone to orientation and joking about how cool it was to be a senior! Way cool! Then I go up to a table and have to give my name and it is still listed under my former name. I have a locker next to the same guy (Cory Kr.) that I did in real-life high school because my former name begins with La. I was told I had to go to the office later to get my last name changed to my married name. (Yes, my dreams have continuity problems) Anyway, the major part of this dream was that they gave me locker #39. So Cory and I go and he puts his lock on #38 and I see that the locker next to it (#39) already has a lock on it! So I have to go back to the table and try to tell her there is already a lock on locker #39. The lady keeps rolling her eyes and not understanding me. I'm repeating slowly about three times that THERE IS ALREADY A LOCK ON LOCKER #39. She advises me to go check again. I go to check again, and all of a sudden I'm seeing all these different locker #39s down the same hallway. Theres small ones and ones up high (that I can't reach) and tons of locker #39s!!! I go back to the office and they don't believe me that there is more than one locker #39. I'm trying to insist I want the one next to Cory K and they need to call a janitor. By this time, everyone is already in classes and I'm pitching a fit in the office because I don't have my locker #39 yet!!!

Those have been my weird dreams. Welcome to my teethless, lost luggage, winged creatured, high-school world. I'm totally not going to the Korean restuarant and ordering the #39.

Exciting Jukebox Friday

Oh peeps. I have been waiting for this jukebox Friday all week. I've found TWO songs to post about.

First is a song The Constantines and Feist have done...a remake of "Islands in the Stream." I personally love this version. Unfortunately, there is no video of it, so I'm just going to have to link to a place where you can listen to the whole thing.

Isn't it lovely?

Next is a song I just discovered this morning. I have been really chillin out to it.
ps: the video is straight-up creepy.

I'm going around today to find a purse for travelling this summer (soon I'll be able to reveal dates and the exciting itinerary my pets). My budget for said purse is $15, but under $10 would be even better. I had a dream 2 nights ago that I found one for $7.58.
ps: my dreams can be straight-up creepy

Today's Revelations

* I dont like peeling oranges. I like cutting them into wedges and eating the delicious part out of the skin.
* Eating oranges made me happy
* Static electricity at the gym is scary. Kept shocking my poor left ear!!
* The internet is an endless resource for learning about static electricity. I think I've cured what the problems were (dry skin, fresh laundered clothes, dry air, cold morning, dry shoes)
* Gimme Arabic bread (thin pita) and melted mozzarella and I am a happy woman
* Pineapple scented things are totally ruined when they contain other totally not necessary scents like coconut. Or mandarin orange. Or "tropical" artificial scents. WHY CAN'T IT JUST BE PINEAPPLE?
--> sidenote: Boo to yankee candle for discontinuing pineapple paradise. That scent was the only reason I ever bought from them...and was the BEST smelling thing EVAR.
* I can totally tune out anything when I'm reading a book.
* Tuning everything out while reading a book is fabulous.
* There is a big crack in our wall that I never noticed
* I really do love and appreciate all my friends
* A band from college that I know totally got 5000 times better with the changeup of the lead singer. I've told the guitarist that they've needed a new lead singer for YEARS. To know how much better they sound now is pretty gratifying
* I need to do dishes. yuck.
* The apartment really is a lot better now that I'm around a lot more
* I don't miss taking a billion phone calls a day and solving horrid insurance cases.
* I keep dreaming about past jobs I've held.
* I dream a lot. and a lot more vividly than most people. I had a dream this week containing some random person from high school. Then I get a message from his wife (who I also went to high school with) that they are expecting a baby girl. So random that I had a dream and an important announcement involving the same RANDOM person.
* Even when I have access to all the cable channels at the gym, I always seem to end up watching a channel I get at home. I'm just used to all the food network, bravo, style, and women's channel entertainment.
* I can't wait until I can go play tennis, go for a bike ride, have a picnic, BE OUTSIDE AND NOT BE COLD, go for morning walks, golf, etc
* I've set my goals for tomorrow: dishes, buying soil to start the patio garden, going to a strength class at the Y, and going through one cupboard in the kitchen to match containers to covers.
* I can't bring myself to get rid of the bridal magazines. Why?
* Enchanted is a delightful movie
* Cuddling and watching Enchanted is the best
* I definitely know which kind of contact lenses I'm going with. I was given two sets to try out and one is a ton better than the ones I'm wearing today.
* You don't need to have a fancy camera to take a good picture
* I love my bestest friend

Blog away

I actually have a lot to blog about today. I'm kinda mixed up today. Bear with me...

I had a dream last night - a very clear and strange dream. First I went some sort of a road trip to Miami. When I drove back, I went to my parents house and walked in. My dad was there rocking a baby. He then proceeded to say, "Well, what do you think of your new baby brother?" WHA?! The baby had red hair and looked like my dad.... adorable, but WHA?! Baby had a name even! (Samuel) It was such a WEIRD dream. I like that I dream and that I can remember them and all their details, but sometimes they freak me out. It is obvious why I dreamt about a baby... Jonahbebe's mum and dad(my brother) are expecting a baby boy any day now. I'm really excited bout it and must have been on my mind. I'm hoping for a smooth birth for them and looking forward to cooing at a little one soon. Trust, nephews and nieces are great things. Secretly, I know I need to rock this baby to cure my own biological clock ticking in me! It is just weird why I would dream that my parents would be hiding a pregnancy and a birth from me... Why my mom?!? (she is so going to freak reading this!!!!)

I do remember when my little brother Zach was born quite clearly... I was 13. My dad had the cutest and proudest little smile on his face when he woke me up that morning (6am) to tell me I had a new brother. I remember that old house and my old room and exactly how my bed was in that room (behind the door) when he walked in. (Oh man, the memories of that blue floral wallpapered walls and crazy blue carpeting.) This dream sort-of reflected those moments too. I've always said that the birth of Zachary brought great happiness to our family, so I'm not sure if this dream is reflecting that this new little one will be a great addition to our fam. I know. Go ahead and say it: "Awww."

__________________________

In very very sad news, my coworker's daughter died last night. She had had lymphoma for a while, but only recently was in the hospital for the flu. They couldn't get her over the flu and she started to develop weird symptoms... Then she had a stroke and lapsed into a coma this last Saturday. Really, it would be like dying from the common flu. A body just can't fight with a weakened immune system.

Please, please. Say a prayer for my coworker Mary and her family. Her daughter was only in her 20s and I know Mary will need strength and a sense of peace to come with this.

With this news welled something inside of me. Sometimes we feel hopeless that we can't do "anything" to help someone when they are dealing with all of that. Today I really reflected that our work department would be without Mary for quite awhile... I know that once she is back there will be a lot of strain for her with the current stressors. Trust, our department is crazed out.

They already have a replacement for me lined up - A super awesome candidate from another department. However, they couldnt' get this new girl in for training until this week - and we only have her for half days.

So.

I offered to come back to work again next week to help training of the new girl more. Before you all gasp in horror, I did it for a number of reasons and I really think this was the right decision. Please follow along:

1. I really timed out my end date all wrong... February 29th is not a payday. I really wanted to end on a pay period day anyway.

2. It will ONLY be half days.

3. It will ONLY be for training. If an agent needs to get ahold of me after this Friday, I'm technically non-existent there. Tough jerky for them.

4. I know that getting my replacement trained will help the department with Mary being out for awhile.

PLUS

5. It will help once Mary is back to not stress her so much

6. My boss gave me a huge hug today and really sincerely thanked me for offering this. She told me if I ever needed a solid gold reference, she would be there.

I am technically celebrating me leaving, but I will go back next week to help out.

Isn't it hard to celebrate when there is a very sad event occurring?

I did it.

Sometimes in life there are those moments

"time grabs you by the wrists / directs you where to go"

You have to make the changes needed. You have to seriously evaluate the unhappy factors.

"go confidently in the direction of your dreams"

sooooooooooooooooooo

.
.
.

I quit my job today. February 29th is my last day ("leap" day. get it? yeah? too barfy? k. noted). I have no other job lined up. I will have March / April / May for myself (with some adventures in the works) and then LIFE will really be stirred up. I worked 305 hours of overtime in 2007 and I do not like the person who worked 305 hours of overtime in 2007. I would cry on the commute home, write awful sad blogs, and not want to talk to ANYONE else but bubs most days. This is me we're talking about. Me not wanting to talk to people is indicative of some serious issues.

But now? Now I'm REALLY excited about this all.

Stay tuned...
