Jukebox Friday - Love Reign O'er Me

As I was watching the hbo event online, I saw a performer named Bettye LaVette and was pretty blown away by her voice. When I looked her up on the good ol' youtube I discovered this gem. Very soulsy and bluesy and yummsy.

From the youtube description:
This astonishing, guttural, hypnotic rendition of the great Pete Townshend classic from The Who's "other" rock opera masterpiece "Quadrophenia" so blew Townshend away that he remarked on his website the next day that it was his "favorite moment" of the event

Jukebox Friday - Girly to the max

This song is pure fun - I've been dancing around to it all week and thoroughly enjoy it. It must be noted that most of the song is in Korean. How cool is it for a song to be in Korean and one can still LOVE it?!?

Jukebox Friday: If I had words...

This song seems very appropriate for today's Jukebox Friday. I find the evolution of the song to my own personal meaning quite unique. First, the music for this song was taken from a beautiful 1886 symphony. It was then made into some reggae monstrosity in 1977, but they did add some really nice lyrics. Then the song was featured in the movie Babe, a movie which I am not ashamed to admit to liking. The scene where the farmer takes this song and makes it into a lullabye for the pig is pretty memorable. So memorable, in fact, that when I was polled this week for my favorite movie music performances, the scene made my top 5. Ever since that movie moment, I have taken a liking to singing this song slowly as a lullabye to whatever darling baby needs to be rocked to sleep. Last week it worked like a charm over my adorable nephew Caleb sending him quite soundly to sleep. The memories I have of rocking these babies will forever stay with me (I hope!)

This week my dearest cousin Stephanie has given birth to one Miss Valerie Marie. She made a very dramatic entry into this world, and, with some further complications is now resting in NICU under observation. We know she is quite a little fighter, but we're just praying our little humble hearts out that all things will heal and the little babe will give us "what's all this fuss for?" looks. I've been humming this song today for this little girl...I think I've further evolved the meaning of the song.

If I Had Words

If I had words to make a day for you,
I'd sing a morning golden & true.
I would make this day last for all time
then fill the night deep with moonshine

Stuck in my brain

(Yes, yes, all the hellos out to blogworld. I'm baaaaaack!)

I heard a song yesterday in the mall blaring from one of those HOT PINK GLITTER GIRL PRINCESS RAWK STAR stores and now I haven't been able to get it out of my head. The problem is that I only remember the actual music and the word "boogie." I cannot now locate the song to get it out of my head. Don't you hate it when that happens? I have contemplated going back to that store today just to get the name of the song.
Oh, so the reason we were dragging our jet-lagged butts out yesterday was to reach an air conditioned zone as our air conditioning isn't working in the apt. Sucks to come home to a 90 degree apartment and have one tiny fan to cool off. Luckily the weather today seems to be exactly the same as when we left and I can leave the windows open....until it rains in an hour. Did WI just suspend itself while we were gone? Sure as heck feels like it.
Lordy I have tons to do....pick up mail, dentist(ugh), 50 loads of laundry, ironing, calling, emailing, renewing insurance, etc. Oh yeah, and look into employing myself. It's back to all of this. Good thing the vacation was so totally fabulous I feel completely renewed and refreshed. If I get down one tiny bit, all I have to do is look at this picture:

Jukebox Friday - Unofficial summer songs 2008

I know it is 3am where you are, but WAKE UP. It is Jukebox Friday and I've found myself at a computer with abilities to pull vids from youtube. Isn't it exciting? Yes, I know all y'all are snoring away.... Oh fine, on to the musak.

Muse, Starlight

...this has become the go-to song when driving back up the mountain. It's grown on me.

Nena, 99 Luftballoons

...I played this song a lot when I was in Germany (lame, I know), and I've traveled with it ever since. Plus there seems to be a lot of German themes here in Lebanon.
1. Soccer Eurocup - GO GERMANY ALL THE WAY! The German flag is flying everywhere here...never knew soccer could be so much fun. Plus we are now in an area where we can get the games in the same time-zone (well, close enough anyway)
2. My poor German skin that I've managed to baby enough so it hasn't burned. Yet.
3. We went and saw "Das Leben der Anderen" which was so good. I can't stop recommending it!

So that's that. Happy Jukebox Friday - I'm headed back out to do vacation-y things.

Ahem.

All day long on Fridays I keep wanting to post more and more videos. Could really clutter this place up. SO, I decided to create my own music blog. I'll post videos, links, lyrics, pictures, and anything that relates to what kind of music I'm listening to.

Check it out:

http://sfoofiemusic.blogspot.com/

I've added a snazzy fun poll to the right hand side, so make sure you vote and check back often. That is, if you like really random music. Cuz that's what I like.

Big Day O' Celebration!

Oh. Hi. Today and tomorrow are going to be pretty exciting for many many reasons. The biggest reasons being:

1) It is my aunty MHP's birthday today! Some people feel pretty blase about birthdays....but I'm pretty sure the majority of the members of our family really know how to celebrate birthdays. They are definitely joyous days indeed. (*ummm, my b-day is 08/04 yo.)

(oh, yes, and it was my brother's b-day on Monday and I didn't give a little bloggy to him for which I apologize. I did call him and all that jazz. He had a great day and I'm proud that he, too, knows how to celebrate! He's part of the group mentioned on MHP's blog as "May Birthdays")

2) My cousin DJ is an ultimate Chicago Cubs fan. Despite many other family trips to Wrigley, he has never managed to be along. Today we get to fulfill a hugely important dream of his to get to a game at Wrigley. It is going to be so awesome.

3) Along with cousin DJ, there's everyone else that will be at the Cubs game! My cousin Mel (just as excited as DJ), birthday girl MHP, the venerable Iwanski, AND (AND!) I have Bethy and Kevin flying all the way from DC! It's exciting!

4) Worthy enough to make this list: I'm going to have a "real" ID to drink a beer at Wrigley. Last time I was there I was clearly over 21, but because my WI license still had the red box around my picture, they refused to serve me a damn beer. Jerkfaces.

5) Tomorrow we (Beth, Kevin, Jean, and I) have a trip to Door County WI planned. Who knows what is going to end up on "The Clipboard of Fun" (best itinerary phrase EVAR) once we get up there. I really like Door County....ummm.....just ignore all the people up there and it's all good.

6) Because of aforementioned Door County trip tomorrow, I get to play Jukebox Friday TODAY! I really really wanted to find the song "Middle Management" by Bishop Allen for todays' post, but they don't have any videos made of this song. If you get a chance to listen to this song, please do so. For some reason, it screams "BASEBALL" to me and seemed fitting for today. Instead I'll kick it old-skool today with some INXS. The reason for INXS is that I once knew a guy up in Door County who looked like a shorter version of Michael Hutchence. He even wore his hair exactly the same way. I even drove Michael Hutchence look-alike to Green Bay to buy a beautiful white guitar once. WEIRD. RANDOM. MEMORIES. I love INXS songs and this one especially puts me in a great mood. How fitting for this grand early Jukebox Friday!

Catch y'all in a few days. *muah*

Jukebox Friday....A greeting from my heart

This is a strange day....this entry won't have the usual overtones "le blog sfoof" normally has. As bad as things seem in Lebanon, it could all just turn around and be ok in a few days. It is very interesting the balance an entire country is in. Well, I'm not going to analyze it poorly here... just know the family is fine up in the mountains. That doesn't mean we don't worry. It's like sitting down in the most beautiful restaurant, everyone is laughing, and two of us get served something completely unsavory. Yet, everyone else is still completely enjoying the party. What do you do? Do you drag it all down, switch out dishes and pretend the unsavory parts away, or cautiously take it all in? I will be at a sort-of standstill.

Fairouz, Li Beirut

Translated
Li Beirut - To Beirut

A greeting from my heart to Beirut
kisses to the sea and to the houses
to a rock, which is like an old sailor’s face
She is made from the people’s soul..from wine
She is from his sweat…of bread and Jasmines
So how does her taste become? A taste of fire and smoke

Glory from the ashes to Beirut
My city has turned out her lamp
From the blood of a child carried upon her hand
She shut her door, and became alone in the sky
Alone with the night
You are mine, you are mine
Ah Hug me you are mine
You are my flag, tomorrow stone
And a travel’s waves
The wounds of my people have blossomed
And mothers tear
You are mine, you are mine
Ah Hug me

Jukebox Friday: I like to sing (REALLY LOUDLY)

Happy Friday! Today I am presenting songs that I like to sing REALLY LOUDLY when no one is around (these days I seem to entertain only Santa, God, and my cranky downstairs neighbor...) Sometimes singing REALLY LOUDLY makes me feel awesome. Just because I sing REALLY LOUDLY and think I sound cool does not mean I will try out for American Idol. I wish a lot of other people in this world would realize this. On top of the two posted videos there are many other songs I like to sing REALLY LOUDLY. Some of the songs on my recent playlist include:
- I Feel It All, Feist
- If You Want Me To, Ginny Owens
- Like A Stone, Audioslave
- Home, Breaking Benjamin
- Vitamin R, Chevelle
- No Sugar Tonight, The Guess Who
- Lady, '95, Styx
- Lazy Eye, Silversun Pickups
- The Pretender, Foo Fighters
- Bleed It Out, Linkin Park
- Sea of Love, Cat Power

What songs do you like to sing REALLY LOUDLY?

Enjoy the two posted songs....

Lullabye For A Stormy Night / Vienna Teng

Anywhere / Evanescence

Exciting Jukebox Friday

Oh peeps. I have been waiting for this jukebox Friday all week. I've found TWO songs to post about.

First is a song The Constantines and Feist have done...a remake of "Islands in the Stream." I personally love this version. Unfortunately, there is no video of it, so I'm just going to have to link to a place where you can listen to the whole thing.

Isn't it lovely?

Next is a song I just discovered this morning. I have been really chillin out to it.
ps: the video is straight-up creepy.

I'm going around today to find a purse for travelling this summer (soon I'll be able to reveal dates and the exciting itinerary my pets). My budget for said purse is $15, but under $10 would be even better. I had a dream 2 nights ago that I found one for $7.58.
ps: my dreams can be straight-up creepy

It's Friday: Do Your Thing!

I like this song. It gets me moving and reminds me to just DO MY THING!

Enjoy, and Happy Weekend!

10. If your life was a television show, what would it be called? The Bitch is Back

Jukebox Friday - A Magical Mystery Link Around The World Extravaganza

YAAAAAAAAAAY. It's Friday.

*ducks sheepishly* mrs here the thing emailed me great instructions for posting videos into blogspot, but I still haven't taken the steps she meticuously provided.

Sooo people are going to have to settle for clicking links. It's a mystery jukebox Friday and everyone is invited! Click - I mean party - away!

A day late. Probably a dollar short.

HI! Was there a jukebox party again? What? I missed it? Yeah. That's me. A day late to the jukebox Friday party found at the cooler blogs on the block.
(See here and here)

I had every intention of putting my nickel in yesterday. What happened you ask? Well, a nap. My work is so draining that a nap up and hit me as soon as I walked in the door yesterday. Can you guess what I did today? Worked. A lot. Thought I would need a good blogging to fight the urge to nap.

Well, the Packers won today (yes! yes yes yes!) which helped stave off the nap.

I feel like I should throw this out here in honor of the win.

BUT

It's already January 12th and something else has creeped up. Bubs and I are at 6 months into this marriage shindig. In the dead of winter, all I'm feeling is "love burns brighter than sunshine.."

Wow, It's been so long since I've posted that you tube doesn't post with blogger anymore? Any savvy instructions for me?
